Minutes City of Mechanicsville

SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

February 6, 2013

 

The Mechanicsville City Council met in special session Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at City Hall.  Mayor Boyd A. Stine was absent.  Meeting called to order at 5:45 p.m. by Mayor Pro-Tem Deanna Cook.  Council members present for roll call were Pam Cavey, Deanna Cook, Rob Davis, Calvin Paup and Pam Logue. 

 

Receive visitors/public comment: None.

 

CONSENT AGENDA:  Pam Cavey motioned, Calvin Paup seconded to approve the consent agenda including the agenda and minutes from 1/14/13. Roll call vote: Ayes: Davis, Cook, Cavey, Logue and Paup. Nays: None. Motion carried.

 

Discussion and possible action on Interviewing Candidates for Public Works Position The council may go into closed session under Iowa Code 21.5 section i to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual requests a closed session.

 

 Each candidate was given the opportunity to request a closed session. Candidates interviewed were Steven Ihns, Timothy Moss, Scott Miller, Leslie Brokaw, and Joe Smith.  Timothy Moss requested a closed session.  Calvin Paup motioned, Pam Logue seconded to go into closed session.  Ayes all.  After the completion of the interview Pam Cavey motioned, Dee Cook seconded to go back into open session.  Ayes all.  Motion carried.

 

After completing the remaining interviews, Calvin Paup motioned, Rob Davis seconded to offer the position to Steve Ihns at a starting wage of $17.50 per hour with an increase to $18.50 upon obtaining the grade 2 water distribution certification.  Ayes all.  Motion carried.

 

Coppess was directed to send correspondence to the candidates who had not been selected for an interview thanking them for their interest in the position, but delay sending letters to those who were interviewed until the offer was officially accepted.

 

Set next regular meeting date: Monday, February 11, 2013

ADJOURN:  There being no further business to come before the Council at this time, council member Calvin Paup motioned, Pam Logue seconded, to adjourn the meeting at 9:02 p.m. Ayes all.  Meeting adjourned.
