SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

August 26, 2013

 

The Mechanicsville City Council met in regular session on Monday, August 26, 2013 at City Hall.  Mayor Boyd A. Stine called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.   Council members present for roll call were Rob Davis, Calvin Paup, Dee Cook, Pam Cavey, and Pam Logue.  Others present included Doyle Pickering and Dusty Dunn.

 

Receive visitors/public comment: As a follow up to a prior written complaint filed by his wife, Doyle Pickering requested council to take action regarding nuisance abatement for tall weeds and brush at 305 N John Street.

 

CONSENT AGENDA:  Dee Cook motioned, Pam Logue seconded to approve the consent agenda including the agenda and minutes from 8/12/13. Roll call vote: Ayes: Paup, Logue, Cavey, Cook, and Davis.  Nays: None. Motion carried.

 

Discussion and possible action on interviewing candidates for Police Chief:  An interview was held with one of the three applicants who were scheduled to be interviewed.  Calvin Paup motioned, Pam Logue seconded not to allow the insurance to be cashed in for wages, set the starting wage at $19 per hour with a review to be done after 90 days, and to request candidate to come back for a second interview before making a final decision.  The motion included a request for the City of Lisbon to prepare a written proposal that outlines the police protection they verbally provided to Mayor Stine just ahead of the last meeting.  Ayes: Paup, Logue, Cook, and Davis.  Nays:  Cavey.  Motion carried.  Some additional discussion about how it would be a step backwards if the city were not to have our own police department.

 

Complaints about weeds/grass not being cut:  Council directed clerk to prepare nuisance abatement notices to be signed by the Mayor for the addresses at 305 N John Street and 502 E First Street.

 

Committee request for concession stand plans/specs to be prepared by engineer:  Pam Cavey motioned, Rob Davis seconded to authorize the clerk to request the engineer to prepare the plans and specs for the concession stand and so that they can be put out for bid.  Ayes all.  Motion carried.

ADJOURN:  There being no further business to come before the Council at this time, council member Rob Davis motioned, Pam Cavey seconded, to adjourn the meeting at 8:40 p.m. Ayes all.  Meeting adjourned.
