Minutes City of Mechanicsville

SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

January 4, 2014

The Mechanicsville City Council met in special session on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at City Hall. Mayor Larry Butler called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. Council members present for roll call were Rob Davis, Pam Cavey, Dee Cook, Pam Logue, and Dee Taylor.

Receive visitors/public comment: None.

CONSENT AGENDA: Dee Cook motioned, Rob Davis seconded to approve the consent agenda including the agenda and the minutes from 12/9/13. Roll call vote: Ayes: Cook, Cavey, Taylor, Logue and Davis. Nays: None. Motion carried.

Discussion and possible action on Interviewing Candidates for Police Chief

Iowa Code 21.5 section i. To evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual requests a closed session. Each candidate was given the opportunity to request a closed session and all declined. The council remained in open session and interviewed two candidates. Discussion followed and clerk was directed to contact Randy Sandhagen to offer the position of Police Chief subject to the completion of the fingerprinting checks with the DCI and FBI as well as undergoing the MMPI testing.

Set next regular meeting date: 1/13/2014.

ADJOURN:  There being no further business to come before the Council at this time, council member Dee Cook motioned, Pam Cavey seconded, to adjourn the meeting at 10:30 a.m. Ayes all.  Meeting adjourned.
